Thought of misfortune occurs more and frequently to all. Thoughts of armed robber coming to your house, accident as you embark on a journey, thought of rejection where you need favour, failure instead of success, fear of sudden death and of sickness are thoughts that help Satan to achieve its plan, if you give him time and space for such thought, idea, vision and dream; we must learn to stop him.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITY

The soul of a man is the engine room that controls his action and choice or decision. The soul or mind consists of man’s emotion, intellectual and the will.

Men are in God’s image. Psl. 82:6, John 10:34-35. We can create things. We have the power to make whatever we want, to happen. That is why God made the demand to be in control of man’s heart. The man of wisdom wrote “keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it flows the issues of life (Proverbs 4:23). And Jesus specifically says, “love God with all your heart”, in His summary of the greatest commandment. In Matthew 22:37, God says, “seek me with all your heart” Jeremiah 29:13. Also in the book of Proverbs 23:26, God says “son give me your heart”. The only route to liberation from tormenting thoughts is to renew your mind with the word of God. Always confront the negative thoughts, pictures and suggestions with what the word of God says concerning the situation confronting you. It is so pleasing.

In 2003, while my husband was seriously ill, he had never been that ill and I was afraid, I turned everything over to God in fasting and prayer for His intervention in our situation. One day, suddenly around 3:00 pm, while I was in the lecture room, a thought dropped into my mind that somebody was on his way to call me that my husband was dead. It was as if I heard a voice. I immediately said No! He shall not die but live to proclaim the goodness of God in the land of the living. (All was happening within me). God’s word for my family is: “he who dies at a hundred years will be thought a mere youth” (Isaiah 65: 20). We shall fulfill our days (Exodus 23:25). So the Devil must not cheat us of our days. We shall not labour for another person to come and harvest. We shall for long enjoy the fruit of our labour says the word of God.

As I continued to affirm the promises, I had to leave the lecture room and went to a quiet place with the Holy anger. It was terrifying. Goose pimples coupled with cold was all over my body. I continued confronting Satan with the word of God. More so, the blood of Jesus has been shed as a ransom for my own husband. So devil, you cannot take him away. No one is coming to give me sad news in the name of Jesus Christ.

As I was getting my peace, fear came in as if somebody was at the gate to call me. Then the spirit of God reminded me again the word of God in Hebrew 2:14-15, that Jesus has destroyed him, who holds the power of death and free my husband from terror of death, I shall not be afraid. I rebuked the spirit of fear and gradually calmed down. As I was in the battle, my husband was also in fierce battle with the spirit of death back at home. He also confronted it with the word of life, and it fled. Thank God for His word and the power of trinity, Holy Spirit that came to our rescue.

Simultaneously, we were confronting death; had it been any of us gave into the negative thought or message, it would have been a different story but Glory be to God. He gave us victory. Nothing will make it easier for you to overcome negative thought than for you to be alert in your spirit. The word says “resist the devil and he shall flee from you” (James 4:7).

The instruction of what to do has been given. You need to acquire the knowledge and apply it as the situation arises. It is a fact; you cannot stop the negative tormenting thoughts from flowing in on your mind, but it is in your power to turn negative suggestions, ideas and pictures to positivity.

STEP TO VICTORY

Renew your mind (soul) with the word of God. (John 17:17, Jeremiah 23:29).

The word of God will help you to overcome your weaknesses. You need good moral meekness of heart; a heart that is receptive to correction, considerate and loving.

Believing what the word says as far as who your husband is to you is important. Isaish 32:2 says “each man will be like a shelter from the wind and a refuge from the storm, like streams of water in the desert and the shadow of a great rock in a thirsty land.” It is impossible for your own husband to go against the word of God if you believe. In every way God has set a standard against intruders for your sake. There is a divine standard for your home. Keep visualizing God’s own picture for your home as written by Prophet Isaiah 32:18. “My people will live in peaceful dwelling places, in secure homes in undisturbed places of rest. Love your husband; do him good with all you have. Do not let his not rewarding or reciprocating your love for now affect you. Very soon; he will come to himself like the prodigal son. That shall be your day of visitation, when your accrued blessings and honour shall be remembered for payment. You are supernaturally lifted above tormenting thoughts. You shall live to enjoy such in Jesus name.
